The UK National Technical Framework is owned and maintained by the Joint Chairs Group, which brings together a wide range of organisations involved in standards and specifications for the transport sector. Within JCG, RTIG has responsibility for representing the passenger transport sector; however other JCG members have functions which are also of significance to passenger transport.
The Framework itself is intended to provide an overarching umbrella of guidance to senior managers who are responsible for ensuring overall effective and efficient services. It is not simply an "introduction to ITS", but a concrete set of recommendations on how to build, operate and monitor technology. By adopting common standards and practices across modes, the aim is to improve coherence and cost-effectiveness.
